Dr. Joshua Bruce

Dr. Joshua Bruce

My motto is “Changing Lives One Smile at a Time.” I possess the highest qualifications and am extremely well skilled in all phases of orthodontic treatment, and strive for excellence to ensure you will receive the best care possible.

I was born in Wichita, Kansas, and come from a family of 12 children. Prior to becoming an orthodontist, I was a mechanical engineer working in Denver and Oklahoma City. As much as I enjoyed what I was doing, something was missing.

So after searching for a career where I could make a personal impact in people’s lives, I had the opportunity to work with a dentist on a mission trip in Mexico, which sparked a new passion and began my long journey that led me through dental school. I graduated with my degree in orthodontics from St. Louis University in December 2013. After completing my residency, I started working as an associate orthodontist in New Mexico and became a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics in March 2015.

In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, acting, artwork (such as sculpture and woodworking), photography, writing, and gardening. I also enjoy hiking and exploring various outdoor activities. I strive to stay active in my community and am looking forward to being involved in all our local areas that we serve.

We accept new patients of all ages and I look forward to meeting each of you. I am very excited about being here in the Northwoods!

More about me

What am I most passionate about professionally? What most excites me about my work?

  • Orthodontics is more than just straightening teeth. It truly is my passion to change people’s lives by giving them a beautiful new smile. I love seeing the confidence blossom as their smile changes. I love being able to use the problem solving of my engineering background, the detail and craftsmanship of my art infused upbringing, and my knowledge of dentistry and orthodontics to create the very best smile possible to last a lifetime.

  • What do I love about working with my patients?

  • I love being around patients of all ages from the young, to the elderly. I am always so excited to see the changes in their smiles at every visit and to learn about their lives, what they are doing in school or work, and the fun things they enjoy in the Northwoods.

  • How long have I been practicing? Why did I choose to join the oral healthcare field?

  • I graduated from dental school in May of 2010 and then went through one additional year of residency in implantology, esthetics, and treating very complex dental patients. I then completed my orthodontics residency in December 2013 and have been practicing as an orthodontist ever since. Although I liked the problem-solving aspect of being a mechanical engineer, I really missed the people interaction as well as working with my hands. After going on a medical mission/dental trip to Juarez, Mexico in 2002 with my next oldest brother who was in medical school at the time, I knew that I wanted to be in healthcare and that dentistry was the perfect fit.

  • Tell us about my team and what makes them so exceptional? What is special about the way my team interacts with my patients?

  • I am blessed to have such an amazing team. Combined, they have more than 80 years of orthodontics experience. They love the patients and are so much fun to work with. They really care about every single patient and listen to their concerns. They also ensure that hygiene is well taken care of.

  • Tell Prospective patients something UPBEAT and FUN about my office. Why should they choose my practice over others?

  • We try to make braces fun by giving rewards from everything from having good hygiene and not breaking brackets to sharing pictures on social media and wearing rubber bands. We provide patterns of colored ties for all the kids and tell lots of funny jokes. In addition to getting be best quality treatment in the fastest way possible, we have a great team who are a blast to be around.

  • Personal Info:

    Where did I grow up?

  • I was raised in Wichita, Kansas but moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma for college and spent many years in Oklahoma before eventually relocating to the Northwoods.

  • Where do I live now and how long have I been there?

  • I live in Rhinelander, WI a short distance from our main office. I have lived here since I moved to Rhinelander in April of 2017.

  • About my family! (Spouse, children, pets, anyone else?)

  • I come from an amazing family. I am the third oldest of 12 children, and I am the proud uncle of 16 nieces and nephews - many of whom I've put braces on!

  • When I’m not working, where am I? What’s my favorite way to spend your time away from work?

  • Away from work, you can find me watching a good movie or eating a nice meal at one of the great area restaurants. I also enjoy my time on Sunday’s and Wednesday evenings up in St. Germain at the St. Germain Evangelical Free Church. When I can I like to see the beauty of the area and have gone up to the Upper Peninsula as well as travel back to Kansas and Oklahoma regularly to see my family.

  • What am I passionate about personally?

  • Aside from transforming people’s lives with a new smile, I am passionate about being involved in the lives of young people which I can do through the youth program at my church. I also enjoy fine arts, plays, museums, and occasionally writing.

  • Am I involved in any community programs, volunteer activities, or nonprofits? Why is being active in my community important?

  • I help with the Wednesday night youth program at St. Germain Evangelical Free Church. I am also active in the local Kiwanis Chapter where our goal is to help the local children and youth. Being a youth leader after I finished college was one of the reasons I went into orthodontics so that I could help influence the future lives of our youth. It is important to me to invest back into the next generation to both make the world a better place, but to give guidance and be a role model for our youth.

  • Anything else I’d like to tell people about myself?

  • I am always looking to meet new people and never turn down an invitation to speak or to join in a nice dinner, fishing, or adventure. If you invite me over, just tell me what you want me to bring.

  • Personal Statement:

What does my profession mean to me? How does working with so many unique people every day affect my life? How do I feel I truly make a difference in my patients’ lives?

  • My motto is, “Changing lives one smile at a time.” Being an orthodontist is both a huge responsibility and a tremendous blessing. I love what I do and am privileged to have the opportunity to make a difference in so many people’s lives. I feel that what I do has the power to transform someone’s smile and their life. I have had young patients never smiled because they were embarrassed about the way they looked, and I have had elderly patients who have cried when I finally gave them the beautiful smile they had dreamed of their whole life. I believe I make a difference in patients’ lives by giving them a smile they are proud of, a smile they want to show other people, and the confidence to live life to the fullest. That is why I believe I am able to transform lives through orthodontics.

    Practice Manager

I oversee the office in many different aspects, including human resources, in the clinic and lab, and at the front desk. I also work with Dr. Bruce on marketing, advertising, monthly scheduling, and daily office management. I love working with patients of all ages, to make sure they feel welcomed and confident in the quality of care they will receive. Watching our patients grow in self-confidence is always rewarding to me. Helping change people’s lives is why I love this profession.

I have been married for 25 years. My husband and I enjoy being outdoors, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. In the summer, we love boating, kayaking, swimming, and sitting around our fire pit. In the winter, you will see me snowshoeing on the lake and through the woods.

    Treatment and Financial Coordinator

I have the pleasure of meeting our new patients, answering their questions regarding proposed treatments, reviewing their options, and creating financial agreements that work for their budget. I love meeting with patients on their first visit and helping them feel comfortable and excited for their orthodontic journey to a beautiful smile. It is so rewarding to watch patients progress through treatment; seeing their confidence and th joy in their smile is very rewarding.

I am engaged to a wonderful man named Alexander. We have three fur-babies: Chester is an Alaskan Husky, Ruger is an American Bulldog, and Lola is an African Meyer’s parrot. I enjoy being outdoors — kayaking, swimming, hiking, camping, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling — but I also enjoy just lounging around home watching Netflix in my pajamas!

    Orthodontic and SureSmile® Technician

I work alongside Dr. Bruce with patient care and utilize our SureSmile technology to help patients achieve their smile goals faster. My favorite part of my job is seeing the changes in our patients, whether in their confidence or their improved smiles. Seeing the patients grow in self-esteem as their new smiles develop is amazing; it is so rewarding to know you are really making a difference in their lives. Getting to know the patients and their families is also wonderful, especially when all of the siblings have been treated or as the younger patients grow up and return to visit. Our patients and our team become like family.

I am a mom of an amazing teenage boy and two cats. I have been in a band for more than 20 years. It is super fun and is something I will continue to do as long as I can. I love the outdoors, too: I am a hunter, fisherman, and camper, and play softball and volleyball during the summer. I like to be active and plan to run another race this spring. I am up for most things, except bungee jumping and maybe alligator wrestling!

    Orthodontic Technician

I help Dr. Bruce with every unique case, and assist with removing and placing wires, taking impressions, and pouring models. I also help as a lab tech and take turns answering the phones, or scanning files into the computer. I love coming into the office and working with everyone here, but my favorite part of my job is helping all our patients achieve their very best smiles. We are a very close knit office which gives us time to get to know our patients on a personal level.

When I’m not in the office, I love to read and write, and hope to become an author one day. I have a cat that I treat like a child: She’s very spoiled! My boyfriend and I enjoy puzzles, board games, and card games together. I love to swim, hike, ride bikes, and camp; in fact, if you gave me the option to camp all summer, I would! I enjoy family time with my sisters, nieces, and nephew as well.

    Orthodontic Technician

I assist Dr. Bruce chairside, help with lab work as well as sterilization. My interest in working in the dental and orthodontic field started when I was a patient, here. The dynamic around the office is more family-like than a traditional doctor/patient relationship and seeing that as a patient I knew that was something I wanted to be a part of.

The best part of my job is the relationships I am able to make with my patients, their families as well as the rest of the team. Meeting with and getting to know our new patients and families, seeing their confidence grow as treatment is completed is what makes this job so rewarding.

I currently reside in Eagle River with my boyfriend, Max. Outside the office we enjoy attending sporting events, being outdoors, traveling, and spending time with our friends and family.

    Orthodontic Technician

Hello! I joined this awesome team in June of 2018. Here, I assist Dr. Bruce in giving you the amazing smile you want. Part of my job includes taking impressions, changing wires, colors, and working in the lab to make appliances. I have a background in general dentistry before making the switch to Orthodontics. I have really enjoyed the switch because this job is very interesting! I get to meet patients of all ages, see as they progress throughout treatment, and of course the amazing end result. Another great part of my job is my co-workers. Everyone here is super nice, fun and caring. I love coming to work every day!

I am originally from Poplar, WI. I attended UW-Stevens Point, where I received a Bachelor of Science in Sociology. I met my husband, Chad, in college and we moved to Park Falls, WI after graduation, where I started my dental career. We recently moved to the Rhinelander area and are loving the location. We love to hunt and fish, so this is perfect!

    Orthodontic Technician

I joined Dr. Bruce’s office in 2016. Since then, I’ve been active in helping the doctor with patient care, lab work, and sterilization. I enjoy working with patients to create a smile that they deserve and have always wanted. I also love working with our team; everyone is so nice and fun to work with. It’s a great feeling to come to work and have a great time!

I am originally from Montana and moved here with my family in 2016. I have one young son, Easton, and my husband Randy, who coaches hockey in our community. We love to go fishing and camping in the summertime, and love to travel at least once a year.
